Teen actor accused of queerbaiting; forced to come out

After months of pressure from online communities and the media alike, the star of the television show “Heartstopper,” 18-year-old Kit Connor, came out as bisexual on Monday.

In a tweet, Connor wrote, “Back for a minute. I’m bi. congrats for forcing an 18 year old to out himself. I think some of you missed the point of the show. Bye.”

The television show “Heartstopper,” is a Netflix teen rom-com revolving around Nick Nelson, played by Connor, a high school rugby player who falls in love with his classmate Charlie Spring.

BTS’s decision to honor draft sets precedent for exemptions

The popular Korean band Bangtan Boys, also known as BTS, have decided to honor the South Korean military draft, despite previous legislation, which allowed them to delay their required military service until age 30.

Under South Korean law, all able-bodied men between the ages of 18-28 are required to serve 18 months in the military. However, despite one of their members, Jin, being 29, he has yet to enlist in the military due to the previously mentioned legislation.

Trump issued subpoena, must be held accountable

The House select committee responsible for investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection of the capital issued a subpoena on Friday, calling for documents and direct testimony from former President Donald Trump.

The subpoena calls for text messages, phone calls, letters, or other documents regarding the incident to be shared with the committee by Nov. 4. Furthermore, Trump must appear before the committee and provide a disposition testimony either in Washington or over video conference. If Trump fails to cooperate, he may be charged with contempt of court, something which is punishable by either a hefty fine or imprisonment.

Recent charges hint at a larger problem in the music industry

Singer-songwriter Alexander O’Conner, known by his stage name, Rex Orange County, appeared in court in London, England after being charged with six counts of sexual assault on Oct. 10.

According to The Sun, “The singer’s accuser alleges he sexually assaulted her twice in West London on June 1, and an additional four times the following day, including once in a taxi and the other three times in his Notting Hill home.”

Should fentanyl testing be widely available on college campuses?

Just walk around a college campus on a weekend, you won’t have to look hard to see inebriated college students celebrating the end of the week with drugs and alcohol alike.

Despite efforts to combat it, the use of drugs is intrinsically tied to college culture across the United States. According to The National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health, “37% of college students have used an illicit drug (Opioids, Stimulants, Benzodiazepines, Cannabinoids, Barbiturates) and abused alcohol on a regular basis.”

New ‘Peanuts’ character stamps debut

Charles Schulz comics have had a lasting effect on American popular culture and in commemoration of this, the Charles Schulz museum partnered with the United States Postal Services to run an official stamp line containing Peanuts characters.

SSU moves to upgrade the campus power grid

Sonoma State University has begun the process of renovating the electrical power grid on campus, with the first phase of trenching and surface restoration likely to be completed by Sept. 24.

This construction project, taking place at the intersection of Sequoia Way and West Redwood Drive on campus, has caused sporadic traffic diversions.

Copeland creek shooting concerns students

The Rohnert Park Police Department is investigating a shooting which occurred on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 on the Copeland Creek Trail.

A public statement from the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety explained that at approximately 11:00 p.m., officers responded to a call of a possible altercation on the Copeland Creek Trail. The attack occurred in the area of the Santa Ana footbridge, approximately 2 miles from Sonoma State’s Campus.
