The team celebrates a walk-off win at last weeks CCAA Softball Tournament.

Seawolves fall out from tournament

This past weekend the 2023 CCAA Softball Tournament was held at Cal State Dominguez Hills’ Toro Diamond. The tournament featured a modified format that mirrored the baseball championship tournament. The first day (Wednesday) saw four lowest-seeded teams compete in a single elimination game. The remaining teams were reseeded for a double-elimination tournament that took place from Thursday to Saturday.

Coach John goelz has been a part of sonoma state’s baseball team program for 38 years.

Head coach of Sonoma State’s baseball program, John Goelz, has transformed the Seawolves into a perennial powerhouse since he took over in 1986. Goelz is a legendary figure in the world of college baseball. He has established himself as one of the most successful coaches in the region. Goelz ability to develop talent and create a winning culture has made him a sought-after mentor for young athletes. He has  over 1,100 wins, 10 conference championships, 11 NCAA tournament appearances and one California Collegiate Athletic Association Coach of the Year award in 2016. Goelz’s Impact on the sport of college baseball is undeniable.

The Sonoma State Baseball team’s season is coming down to the wire as they are hunting towards making the playoffs. This past weekend the Seawolves faced off against California State University San Marcos for a four game series.

Women’s Golf wins home tournament

The Sonoma State Women’s Golf Team hosted their Spring Invite at Santa Rosa Golf and Country Club, winning their first tournament of the year. Despite the saturation on the fairways because of the recent rain, the course play was unexpectedly long, yet the Seawolves capitalized on their home turf.

Softball continues their grand slam season

The Sonoma State Softball team has been on a tear in the CCAA from players reaching milestones to their recent success in the CCAA Tournament of Champions. Giana Hays, Anna Zoia-Buescher, and Courtney Jack all reached 100 career hits, while Jordyn Martinez and Buescher were named to the 2023 Tucci/NFCA DII Player of the Year watchlist.

Sonoma wins first conference game

The Sonoma State Baseball team recorded their first conference victory of the season over their California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) rival, Chico State. This is the first time since 2018 the Seawolves defeated the Wildcats, ending a 10-game losing streak.

Athlete Spotlight of the Week: Mia Golovich

The clubs are swinging at full effect for Sonoma State’s Women’s Golf Team as Mia Golovich recently won the CCAA (California Collegiate Athletic Association) Player of the Week Award. At the San Marcos Fujikura Invitational event last week, she finished third overall leading the Sonoma State team. She finished with a tournament-best of eight birdies, 16 pars and was a top CCAA finisher.

Wells wins Player of the Year, SSU fights till the end

The Sonoma State Men’s Basketball season came to a close this past week after being eliminated from the CCAA (California Collegiate Athletic Association) tournament. Despite the loss, the team had plenty to be proud of after such a successful season that included a Conference Player of the Year Award for Jaylen Wells and a CCAA Honorable Mention for Austin Fadal.

SSU student-employees seek stronger voices through unionizing

The fight to protect student-employees is on and the road to a Student-Workers Union is breaking stride at Sonoma State. The California State University Employees Union (CSUEU), National Union of Healthcare Workers (NUHW), and The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 1021 are all partnering up to help universities like Sonoma State and its student-employees by giving them more options and tools to protect, voice, and secure their work life.

Students call for cheaper textbooks as costs continue to rise

Later this Fall, Sonoma State University will be moving to a new learning material program called the Seawolf Bundle. This is the university’s version of an “equitable access program”. This program lowers the overall cost of learning material through volume agreements with publishers and provides the same price for learning material even for high-cost majors. Instead of purchasing required learning software, textbooks, and digital materials individually, this program compiles everything into one package.
