SSU TO OPEN VETERAN AND MILITARY RESOURCE CENTER

Sonoma State took part in honoring our nation’s veterans and they are celebrating the opening of its first space dedicated to supporting military-connected students on campus. Thursday, November 14th, was a ribbon-cutting ceremony that was held to unveil the Military and Veteran Resource Center.

Gas leak in Rohnert Park

A gas leak Monday in Rohnert Park led to a shelter, which has since been fixed. The Rohnert Park Department of Safety sent out a Nixle alert stating that there was a gas leak on Executive Avenue.

Graton Casino opens its doors for fire evacuees

Rohnert Park’s Graton Casino opened its hotel to fire refugees in Sonoma County after the Kincade fire,  another destructive wildfire struck Sonoma County, and more than 180,000 people evacuated. Casinos are usually places where people gamble, drink, and dine, but in this case, things were a lot different.

PG&E to consider another power outage for North Bay

PG&E has been under extreme scrutiny for the way they have handled the shutoffs, but they were right about a possible fire coming. Sonoma State University was closed due to a power outage for a week; however, the school still did have power. PG&E recommends having important phone numbers for public services, family, and friends stored somewhere so that it is easy to call when needed.

Sonoma County Harvest Fair to partner with Sonoma County Fair

For more than four decades, the Sonoma County Harvest Fair has been a standalone event following the Sonoma County Fair in the late summer. Recently organizers have been thinking of a plan to partner the two together starting in 2020.

Beloved ‘Friends’ celebrates its 25th Anniversary

On Sept. 22, 1994, 25 years ago, “Friends” made its NBC debut and forever changed the landscape of American sitcoms. Fans around the world fell in love with the show’s witty and sharp humor and continue to watch it today, still laughing along with the characters all the while. The show turned its six stars: Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer into household names, as they still remain popular in the public eye to this day. Now, a  number of “Friends” related events and television specials are celebrating the series’ 25th anniversary this month, including CNN, which will honor the NBC show with “Friends Forever: 25 Years Of Laughter.”

K&L Bistro is a well known neighborhood Parisian-style restaurant that offers gourmet French cuisine in an intimate, sophisticated venue located in neighboring Sebastopol, California at 119 S Main St. Owners Lucas and Karen Martin have made their restaurant into a fine dining space where customers can enjoy their meal and cocktails: whether it be dining inside, outside, or at the full bar in between.

‘IT Chapter Two’: early reviews proving scarier than new film

“IT Chapter Two” recently opened at the box office on Sept. 6, greeted by mixed reviews from the audience--but fan-wide anticipation and excitement prevail in its opening week numbers nonetheless. The film is the second of the series, in which the members of “The Losers Club” are called back to Derry 27 years after the events of the first film, which holds the box office record for the second biggest horror film opening of all time. “IT Chapter Two,” however, is more about the aftereffects of the trauma that the cast members endure in the first film.

Taylor Swift returns with ‘Lover’

Taylor Swift is one of the biggest singers and songwriters of our generation--and she just got bigger. On Aug. 23, Swift released her newest album, titled, “Lover,” which is already raging with success. In a single week, “Lover” netted the equivalent of 867,000 album units in the US, according to Billboard. “It is the largest sales week for any album since Swift’s last 2017 release, ‘Reputation,’” Billboard Magazine says.

Brett Young dazzles at Graton Resort and Casino

Brett Young has become a top country superstar with thousands of fans around the world. On Aug. 22, Sonoma County residents and fans alike held the opportunity to see him perform at the county’s very own Graton Resort and Casino in Rohnert Park.

Sonoma Film Institute brings light to films of redeeming value

The Sonoma Film Institute is the oldest film stockroom organization throughout the entire North Bay Area. The screenings that the Sonoma Film Institute provides help students enhance their educational opportunities with the expansive range of films it offers. The Institute as a whole also shares a beneficial influence on the campus and the community that surrounds it.
