Historic season wages on for SSU

After an outstanding season by the SSU Softball team, a program record tying seven members of the squad were selected to CCAA All-Conference teams. On March 3, it was announced that the #15 ranked Seawolves would also take home the Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Coach of the Year awards.

On Tuesday, Feb. 28, three of our Women’s basketball players earned All-CCAA (California Collegiate Athletic Association) honors. Forward Alli McDonald was granted First-Team All-CCAA honors while fellow Seawolves, Forward, Amanda Luckett, and Guard, Cielo Gonzalez were given Honorable Mentions for their hard work this season.

Memorial at Wolf Den Plaza reminds students to look before crossing

Students attending Sonoma State University may remember the tragic news of the passing of 21-year-old Hugo Ramirez in July of 2021. Hugo died after being struck by a car on East Cotati Avenue while crossing the street near the campus. The memorial on the sidewalk of the Wolf Den Plaza remains today as a reminder of this heartbreaking loss to the SSU community and reminds students to always be safe when traveling near busy streets.

SSU mourns the loss of Professor André Minor

On Feb. 13, Sonoma State University notified students and faculty about the tragic death of Dr. André Minor of the mathematics and statistics department. He was reportedly working on his property in the Mayacamas Mountains on Feb. 11 when the accident involving a tree falling occurred around 11 am.

Throughout the first three weeks of the new year, Northern California saw a barrage of heavy rain and high wind speeds that triggered flood warnings for Sonoma County and much of the state. According to the Press Democrat, some parts of Sonoma County got over 33 inches of rain over a 23-day period, from Dec. 26, 2022 to Jan. 17.
