SSU students empowered in self-defense class

The end of Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) inspired Student Involvement to host an empowering self defense class on Nov. 3.This class offered students the opportunity to learn more tactics on how to defend themselves.

Spirited Seawolves take part in Midnite Madness

Sonoma State’s Men’s and Women’s basketball teams jump out with a big rally for Midnite Madness the night of Oct. 26. The night was planned to celebrate the start of the basketball season. Lots of parents, students and other athletes gathered for the opener that was planned by the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. The night consisted of entertaining games, dancing and basketball competitions such as 3-point contests and dunk contests.

Seawolves fall under the spell of Brian Inbus

“I’m not a Psychic, I’m not a Medium, I don’t talk to dead people.” Hypnotist Brian Inbus fascinated Sonoma State’s families this past Saturday. People gathered to watch in amazement at how hypnosis works. Guest Entertainer Inbus put on a show involving many different tricks and skills he learned over the past 20 years.

SSU’s Black Student Union talks voting

Sonoma State’s Black Student Union met in The Hub Tuesday, Oct.11 to discuss important topics that black people have endured in the past and how it has changed since then. Students learned more about the era of Jim Crow laws and how it legalized racial segregation. One of the main focus points of the event was discussing how the Jim Crow era sought to prevent Black people from voting. BSU also provides a safe space to discuss other controversial subjects.

Seawolves bowl the night away

Sonoma students had a blast as they gathered together for free bowling at Double Decker Lanes. On Oct. 6 from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. students gathered to show their bowling skills and socialize with their friends. The theme of this event was ‘Noma Nation’ so everyone made sure to have on their favorite SSU gear.

Volleyball skunks the competition

Sonoma State’s women's volleyball went undefeated this past week once again. The Seawolves played against league rivals Chico State and Stanislaus State. The Seawolves have seemed to have found their rhythm this week as they are now riding a 3 game win streak.

Two women’s soccer players earn awards

Sonoma State Women’s Soccer is back after a very successful 2021 campaign that included winning the CCAA Championship. The defending champions have come out this year staying on top with a current overall record of 3-1. The Seawolves biggest win so far this season was against nationally ranked Western Washington. All this early success has been a complete team effort but 2 certain players have been on another level.

SSU volleyball takes over Seawolves/Penguins Classic

This past weekend's Seawolves/Penguins Classic was a very successful one for Sonoma State’s volleyball team as they fought hard to go undefeated. Sonoma’s seniors Kiana Richardson, Jen Trephan and Jessie Hobbs began the start of the season as powerful forces and leaders for their team. Sonoma’s first game was against Holy Names University, and the Seawolves won in a three-set sweep. Trephan led the way with a huge five kills. Junior Brooklyn Jackson has also been setting the tone for the team as she ended Holy Names and was named Player of the Game with nine kills. Kills are an exciting part of the game and very difficult to accomplish, so we asked Jackson what it takes to see those opportunities.
