As MTV once stood as the leader for pop-culture entertainment, the focus eventually shifted away from music videos and instead focused on reality TV shows.

Everybody’s familiar with the legendary bands like Led Zeppelin and Nirvana that disbanded after the deaths of John Bonham and Kurt Cobain, but there are countless other groups that had something different to offer in terms of music, but whose time was sadly cut short.

The latest album by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes proved to be nothing but a zero. The 10-piece indie, folk-rock group followed up their 2013 release “Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes” with their fourth studio album, “PersonA.” The psychedelic, sitting around the campfire feel creates the intentionally branded tones that hipsters love and music fans loathe. 

Sonoma State University has placed a renewed importance on its academics, student life and athletics. However, the art scene is one aspect that seems to go relatively unnoticed.

 the STAR asked Sonoma State University students: Which artists do you think are the most overrated?  

Most people today are entertained by feeble family sitcoms or stale overplayed bands with very little distinctiveness. Thankfully, HBO has come through once again with a dynamic and emotional new series that incorporates edgy and powerful rock n’ roll culture.

It’s easy to fall through the cracks when a large part of the music industry conforms strictly to public demand in order to reap the financial benefits. However, the only thing more dry and exhausted than mainstream rock is talking about its decline. Most labels sell the idea that rock is dying in order to keep us waiting for a resurrection.
