Blige hits London

Mary J. Blige has come far from the start of her career as a background singer on uptown records in 1989.  Blige has been a musical legend since her debut in 1992 with the release of her first album “What’s the 411?”  Production for Blige’s debut album began in 1991. Sean Combs, a 21-year-old A&R executive at Uptown Records, became her executive producer. Andre Harrell, Combs’s supervisor, named Blige the “Queen of Hip-Hop Soul.”

Disney’s unlikely superhero

A new Disney superhero has hit the big screen. “Big Hero 6” is a light-hearted animated film featuring a young inventor and his robot.

The audience finds themselves in the future, city of San Fransokyo, a twist of San Francisco and Tokyo.

Banning all plastic bags

Sept. 1. If you haven’t seen the signs posted in stores everywhere, I’ll tell you what this date means. Sept. 1, is the day that plastic bags have been banned from use in stores, and a ten-cent charge for paper bags have been put in place. This ban date is only for Sonoma County, though other cities and counties are pushing to put a ban on plastic bags as well.

The history behind sororities

I caught myself talking to a couple of girls in a sorority last week, which got me thinking, “What exactly is a sorority, and why were they created?”  Google told me a sorority is a, “society for female students in a university or college, typically for social purposes.” Google also told me the Latin root ‘soror’ means sister.

Individualism in particular is ideal to reach.  A majority of society is trying to be different from everyone else; the whole hipster trend is an example of individualism.
