Alumni Takeovers help to give students motivation

With finals quickly approaching, many SSU students are lacking the motivation needed to push through, with school being virtual. However, the SSU Career Center’s Alumni Takeovers are a great way for students to gain motivation and see a day in the post-grad life of an SSU alumni. This past Thursday, SSU Class of 2019 alumni Daisy Agers hosted an Alumni Takeover on the SSU Career Center Instagram.

Money Matters event touches on repaying student loans

Throughout March and April, Sonoma State University partnered with Wells Fargo to do a series focusing on money management. While enrolled in college, many students do not think about what comes after college, and how to pay off student loans. According to Student Loan Hero, “about 69% of students from the Class of 2019 took out student loans, graduating with an average debt balance of $29,800.”

SSU opens up outdoor studying area

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many Sonoma State students have missed studying at some of their favorite spots on campus. Starting this month, Sonoma State Associated Students opened a new Seawolf Outdoor Study Area on campus at the Green Music Center to allow students to safely return to study on-campus.

Applications for housing in 2021-2022 are now open

Sonoma State University is excited to offer several award-winning housing options for students to live on campus during the 2021-2022 school year. The housing applications for this coming school year are now open for students to complete by May 1.

Virtual Club Fest allows students to find ways to connect during the pandemic

With nearly everything SSU-related going virtual, it’s become important now more than ever for students to connect with one another and get involved. Many of our Seawolves took advantage of the Virtual Club Fest from March 9-11 in hopes of exploring the various ways to get involved with SSU online and offline.

Mixed feelings from staff, students about returning to in-person instruction for Fall 2021

On March 1, Sonoma State sent out an email updating SSU students, staff, and faculty on their Summer and Fall 2021 semesters planning status. The email left the SSU community with a vast array of feelings about the possibility of returning to in-person learning in the fall.

As COVID-19 rates are slowly declining and vaccines are rolling out, SSU is planning for an increase in in-person activities for the summer and fall.

Sonoma State students find ‘endless’ remote internship opportunities as a result of COVID-19

Though the COVID-19 pandemic has hit college students harder than ever, as it has taken away from their in-person college experience, many Sonoma State University students have found the silver-lining of the pandemic to be the endless remote internship opportunities nationwide.

In March 2020, all California State Universities halted their on campus activities and have yet to reopen.

Sonoma County hospitality industry hopes ‘Restaurant Week’ will make up lost revenue

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Sonoma County will continue the tradition of supporting local businesses Feb. 19-28 during their annual Sonoma County Restaurant Week.

According to Sonoma County Tourism the vast variety of participating restaurants, “will present fantastic dishes and culinary creations available for outdoor dining and take out” for those willing to safely visit these restaurants.”
