The STAR says goodbye to Managing Editor Kim Baptista

Not many Sonoma State University students get the opportunity to meet the STAR’s one and only managing editor, Kim Baptista. Even fewer will know the story that led up to her work at the college paper, which includes multiple majors and a triumph over breast cancer.

Fraternity philanthropy celebrates 18 years

From April 10 until April 14 the men of Phi Delta Theta fraternity at Sonoma State University hosted a philanthropy event lasting 104 hours, where participants teeter tottered to raise awareness for Cystic Fibrosis.

The 18th annual event gives back to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in honor of Brent “Woody” Bolin, a member who passed away in 2006 from the disease.

Greek life donates with dodgeball tournament

Over the weekend Sonoma State University students, staff and Rohnert Park locals channeled their inner child while giving back to the less fortunate at the annual Phi Sigma Sigma Dodgeball Tournament.

The event is put on during the spring semester, and this year marks the 7th annual tournament planned by the ladies of Phi Sigma Sigma.

As the spring semester begins to rapidly approach its last few weeks, many students at Sonoma State University have two things on their minds. The first being “finals, finals, finals” and the second is a question carrying equal, if not more, stress than finals themselves, “where am I going to live next year?” Fortunately, that question can be answered at this years Off-Campus Housing Resource Fair.

Sonoma County Transit offers free bus rides for Sonoma State University students throughout the rest of the year. Places like Scandia, Graton and Cal Skate are all college orientated locations for fun and entertainment which can be reached by bus. However options for students aren’t limited to Rohnert Park, in fact there are destinations in other cities that are only a short bus ride away. Adventuringnorth can bringmany unique and exciting opportunities. Students that feel caught in the same routine can find new entertainment in other areas of the North Bay.

Best destinations by free bus ride

“Free Rides” is a program offering free transportation to Sonoma State students, provided by Sonoma County Transit. 

Not many take full advantage of this opportunity, simply because they are unaware of the program. Since many people struggle with staying on budget during their college years, saving money wherever they can a plus. Here are a few entertaining destinations that students can get to for free, until the end of the year.
