The ladies of Alpha Delta Pi (ADPi) are currently well on their way with their spring philanthropy called “Roses for Ronald”.  Roses for Ronald is an event ADPi has been putting on for the past three years. The sisters aim to raise money for the local Ronald McDonald House by selling roses. This event has been going on since Jan. 27 and will continue all the way to Feb. 7 in the Seawolf Plaza from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m every day. The money is used to support children and families whose loved ones are in the hospital.

The Ronald McDonald House (RMHC) mission is “To create, find and support programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children and their families. A world where all children have access to medical care, and their families are supported and actively involved in their children’s care,” according to their website.  The mission of RMHC is shown all across the sisters of ADPi.

The president of ADPi, Harlee Suliven, is enthusiastic about the event and the good it does.

“The Ronald McDonald house charities is extremely important to Alpha Delta Pi.  Our Theta Gamma chapter directly connects with the San Francisco location where we send our support all year long,” said Sullivan.

So far, the sisters of ADPi have raised over $1000 for their philanthropy and their goal is to raise more in the next couple of weeks.  During their time tabling, ADPi sells roses for people to come up and buy for their significant other, family members, friends, or anyone who could use a flower..  On that rose, they are able to write a note that will be attached and delivered to the recipient to their respective organizations, if they are affiliated with greek life, sports or clubs on February 9th.  If they are not affiliated with any organizations, the rose giver can pick it up on the eighth and give it to that special someone.  It was said that the reason why the chapter uses roses is to signify love and passion for one another.

This act of kindness, by giving someone a rose is to signify that there is someone out there who cares and loves you, exemplifies the chapter’s kindness.

“I personally chose Alpha Delta Pi because I love the Ronald McDonald House and I love what the chapter does to give back to the organization,” said a sister of ADPi, Lauren Fernandes. “Being able to participate in Roses for Ronald not only allows me to give back to children and families in need during devastating times, but also help put smiles on peoples faces, which is extremely gratifying to me and my sisters.”

Around six times a semester, the sisters go to the Ronald McDonald House, help serve food and spend time with the families.  They also sometimes give valentine grams, Halloween bags during the holidays and blankets during the winter time.  This is the only time the sisters are able to be face to face with the families who are affected, so they have a lot of satisfaction for their time spent.

Another sister of the sorority Hunter Petretti, talked about her experience with the function.

“I absolutely love our philanthropy and this event.  Our philanthropy is so close to my heart and I love seeing how our hard work pays off and makes these kids days a little bit brighter,” said Petretti.

This last week of school, ADPi was able to kick off their philanthropy with a bang.  The ladies were able to raise a large amount of money with hopes of raising a lot more.  They are excited for what is to come this semester with the rest of their philanthropy and their visits to the Ronald McDonald House to spend more time with deserving families.  The sisters appreciate all the help they can get for a wonderful cause and look forward to seeing people out on the student center.  The philanthropy ADPi is doing is making a difference and they are excited to keep moving forward with that.
