Despite Sonoma State losing sports teams, student life and opportunities make this university shine, it still provides a lot for students that goes beyond the classroom.
It might be different from the typical “college town” lifestyle, (and perhaps feels a bit like extended community college) but this campus offers beautiful scenery and great activities for the students. It’s a welcoming environment, and it offers chances for students to get to know each other.
Coming into Sonoma State University, you are welcomed with beautiful prunus trees. Springtime is my favorite time of the year because you see these beautiful trees blossoming, filling the campus with pink, green, and other vibrant colors. It feels like a movie scene, coming in around 7 a.m., it’s very calm and relaxing, with the morning dew on the grass and the cool breeze making campus feel serene.
The Sonoma State University library is amazing. It features three different levels that cater to your different studying needs. The first level is more energetic and busy. This level offers many different support services and resources. There, you’re able to do group work and chat, so be prepared for a loud and energetic atmosphere. The second level is for collaboration and technology. There are computers and printers that are available to use, and numerous group rooms where you can work in private. Level three is my favorite floor because it’s the designated quiet zone. It’s solely for quiet study, and it’s also the level that has regional and special collection books. Whenever I want to get serious work done, I choose level three of the library because it’s quiet, so it’s easy to focus.
If you ever want to get active on the campus, my favorite places to go are the gym and the recreational center. The gym has all of the standard equipment that you need to get a satisfying and adequate workout. The first level of the gym has a lot more of the standard weight equipment and machines, whereas the second floor has a lot more cardio equipment, and also an indoor track. The recreation center also has two basketball courts available for students and a rock climbing gym. On the basketball courts, you can find intramural sports like volleyball, badminton, and basketball. The rock climbing wall is a great place to get started on your rock climbing journey. It’s a free resource that offers climbing equipment and free climbing clinics.
Sonoma State is a wonderful campus that gives you the resources to be successful in school. It’s a safe haven that creates a welcoming environment for students and allows students to have a healthy school-life balance.
