Warren Court Prize goes to two winners

For the first time in three years, the Center for Ethics, Law and Society awarded two Sonoma State University students the Warren Court Prize for their essays reflecting on issues related to ethics, constitutional law and justice. Co-winners Kayla Brown, a senior majoring in philosophy, and Elizabeth Cardenas, a sophomore philosophy major, will each receive $450 for their victory.

Academic Senate explores housing options

Although the fires may have stopped burning, their impacts are still heavily felt. A month after the devastating North Bay inferno, the community finds itself in a recovery process. But how will this region house all the people who have been relocated by the fires in addition to housing all of the new people who will come to the area to help rebuild? This was the major topic of discussion at the Sonoma State at the Academic Senate meeting on Thursday.

Wine Business Institute launches wildfire impact study

If Sonoma County is known for anything, it’s wine. So it’s no surprise that many are wondering what impact the recent wildfires had on the North Coast wine industry. To address that exact question, the Wine Business Institute at Sonoma State University is doing a wildfire impact assessment study, one that started just three days after the fires broke out.

SSU to receive $2.75 million to train Hispanic teachers

The HUB fosters Asian and Pacific Islander communities

On the first day of September, 30 people filled the HUB. They devoured Chinese food, listened to the Bruno Mars Pandora station and happily conversed at the first Community and Ally Lunch Mixer of the semester. 

Students in attendance identified as Filipino, Mexican, queer and more, but all were allies gathered in the same room to support the Asian and Pacific Islander community.

Former student sparks inspiration with electrical engineering degree

When Miah Crockett first stepped onto Sonoma State University, she never imagined that in five years she would be speaking at her commencement for science and technology as the first African-American woman in Sonoma State history to earn an electrical engineering degree.
