Have you ever felt the burning desire to go workout, but never known what to do or how to do it? The on-campus rec center has the perfect 30 minute solution for you.  Every Wednesday starting at 6 p.m. Campus Recreation hosts an instructor-guided High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) class. HIIT  is a series of timed exercises ranging in difficulty with an end goal of increasing the heart rate.  Some examples of these exercises were split squats, burpees, curtsy lunges, bicycle crunches and many more that varied in intensity.  With a pattern of 45 seconds on and 30 seconds off, each of the four exercise sets proved to be a great test. 

Before we all departed on spring break seawolves met for the 12th session of the lecture series titled, “Black and Brown in Blue.” On Wednesday, March 15, Officer Jillian Van Riper sat down with Sonoma State Police Chief Nader Oweis to tell her life story and discuss the struggles that come with being a woman in the police force. 

PJ’s at The Kitchens? Sounds cool right? Once a month Student Involvement as well as The Kitchens turn the SSU cafeteria into a unique dining experience. This past Thursday the theme was Pajama Party Dinner. Students joined in on the experience by wearing their coziest bedtime attire.

Sonoma State InterVarsity hosted a blanket-making workshop this past Saturday evening at Weyden and Brewster.  At the event, there were upwards of 20 students that came to make their own throw/tie blanket.  This event was endorsed by Seawolf Living but it was hosted by InterVarsity, a Christianity-based fellowship.

The Sonoma State Lacrosse club team fought hard but came up short against San Diego State this past Saturday. They played their home game at Sunrise Park which sits less than a mile from campus and put up a great fight against the Aztecs who are now 3-1.    

The Seawolves Softball team dominated last week with everything from continuations of old games to ninth inning walk-offs to a perfect game by Nichole Sarra. They outscored their opponents with a cumulative score of 54-8.

Sonoma State Women’s Basketball defeats Cal State East Bay on an instrumental last-second buzzer-beater.  In the last few seconds of a five-minute overtime, junior Jayme Blackard pushed the ball up the court to the right wing where she pulled up over her defender and knocked down the mid-range shot at the buzzer with no time remaining. The moment sent a bolt of electricity through the building as Blackard was swarmed by her teammates after one of their season defining moments. 

Sonoma State Men’s and Women’s golf teams are gearing up for yet another successful season. When asked what his expectations are regarding the upcoming season, Head Coach Val Verhunce said that doesn’t like expectations, but he did state that, “If we manage ourselves correctly, results should be good.” Coach Val has coached some impressive teams in the past, including the 2009 National Championship-winning team. Someone else who has National Championship pedigree is the team’s new assistant coach, Jess Stimack.  His own team at Chico State finished second at Nationals in 2004, so it’s safe to say the team is under sturdy leadership.
