The crowd at Seawolf Soccer Field erupted as Andrew Trejo scored Sonoma State’s third goal of the night, completing his hat trick and sprinting toward his teammates in celebration during senior night.
Trejo’s three-goal performance lifted the Seawolves to a 3-1 victory over the Sacramento State Hornets men’s soccer on Sunday, March 8. On a night that often brings extra nerves and pressure for senior players, Trejo turned the moment into motivation with one of the most memorable performances of his career.
From the opening whistle, Sonoma State played with energy and urgency, making it clear the team wanted to defend its home field on a special night for its seniors. The Seawolves attacked early, winning tackles and pushing the pace as they controlled possession and the flow of the match.

That intensity paid off as Sonoma State built a 2-0 lead, forcing Sacramento State to adjust and play from behind.
The Hornets eventually responded with a goal to cut the deficit to 2-1, briefly shifting the momentum and bringing some tension back into the match. With the game tightening up, the Seawolves’ midfield regrouped and focused on regaining control of possession to prevent Sacramento State from building confidence.
Their response came from the same player who had been leading the charge all night.
Trejo found the back of the net once again to complete his hat trick, sealing the win for Sonoma State and sending the crowd into celebration.
For Trejo, the moment was about more than just the goals.
“I’m glad that the crowd was drawn to the game and were supporting us from the beginning to the end,” Trejo said.
He added that finishing his final home game with a performance like that meant a lot after everything he had given to the program.
“It means a lot because I have given this team 100 percent every game,” Trejo said. “I’m glad I could finish my last game at home with this team with three goals and most importantly a win.”
Along with Trejo, the Seawolves also honored seniors Manuel Albor, Bryce Monnier, Rey Sebastian, Matthieu Godignon and Oscar Fernandez for their contributions to the program as they prepare to graduate this spring.
