Noma Baseball closed out its fall schedule on a high note, taking two of three games from the San Jose State Spartans in a hard-fought weekend series. The performance capped a strong end to the fall slate and gives the Seawolves momentum as they enter winter training ahead of their bid for the NCBA Southern Pacific-North Conference title this spring.
The Seawolves were energized on Saturday, aiming for a sweep in their 7-inning doubleheader. But in Sunday’s 9-inning matchup, the Spartans erupted offensively, outscoring Noma by 24 runs to spoil the potential sweep.
Noma third baseman Adrian Christopher Olster said he enjoyed the opportunity to compete against San Jose State.
“I feel confident no matter what type of team we face because we know who we are,” Olster said. “I know that our guys can swing the bat, and we take advantage of every little opportunity we have on defense as well as on offense.”
Olster said his offseason priorities are simple: “I’ll be in the weight room getting a lot of iron in, staying healthy and eating good food so that I’m available throughout the spring season.”
With the fall season wrapped, many players plan to take the offseason seriously, focusing on strength training, team bonding and practicing in better weather conditions in preparation for spring.
Noma outfielder and right-handed pitcher Owen Meshekow told the Sonoma State Star that he hopes to build on last year’s performance.
“My goal in the upcoming spring is to play as hard as I can and maybe feed off of last year,” Meshekow said. “My motivation is to just work hard and be a supportive teammate who can provide tips or pointers if needed.”
Meshekow said he plans to sharpen his hitting and stay active in the weight room. “During the offseason I’m going to get a lot of reps in the batting cages, and as an outfielder, I’ll be in the weight room a lot,” he said.
Despite the tough finish on Sunday, the Seawolves’ strong fall showing sets a positive tone heading into winter training, where players like Olster and Meshekow will put their offseason plans into action.
With a renewed commitment to health, strength, and team chemistry, Noma Baseball looks poised to make a strong push for the Southern Pacific-North Conference title when the spring season officially begins. Fans can expect to see the results of that work when the Seawolves return to action.
