Noma Baseball hosted its first Fall Series against Cal Berkeley on Oct. 11-12 at the historic Seawolves Diamond. The series served as key preparation for the upcoming spring season, but the matchup against Cal was also a crucial early test. It wasn’t just about shaking off rust — it was a benchmark for the level of precision, power and pace that Noma will need to compete when league play begins.
Catcher Thalun Williams shared his thoughts on facing a strong opponent. “Playing Cal Berkeley feels good because I know that they are a great team and knowing that they have a former Division I player on their roster,” Williams said.
Excitement and motivation filled the Noma dugout as players embraced the challenge of competing against a top-tier team. Though the squad may not be the biggest or most experienced in its league, players showed determination to battle on every play and build a team identity that could carry them into the spring season.
First baseman Elliot Scheidtmann reflected on that growing identity. “Our team identity is being small but taking every opportunity that’s given to us, as well as having a great friendship and communication on the diamond,” Scheidtmann said.
Noma Baseball dropped the three-game series, winning only one of those games. On opening day, the teams played a doubleheader consisting of two seven-inning games. Noma won the opener 5-3 before falling 14-4 in the second game. In Sunday’s nine-inning finale, Cal pulled away for an 11-6 victory.
Despite losing the home series, Noma Baseball remains optimistic. With several more scrimmages and practices ahead, the team has time to adjust, improve and prepare for a promising spring season.
