For the first time in nearly two decades, the CCAA Softball Tournament is heading north of the Bay Area. It marks the first time since 2007 and 2008, when the event was held in Arcata, that the prestigious postsea- son competition will be staged in Northern California.
The 2025 CCAA Softball Tournament, presented by FloCollege, will take place at Seawolf Softball Field on the campus of Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, California.
The six-team tournament will kick off on April 30, with a single-elimination play-in game between the bottom four seeds. From there, the field will be seeded for a double-elimination format spanning Thursday through Saturday. The winner will earn the CCAA’s automatic berth to the NCAA West Regional Tournament.
Sonoma State has clinched a spot in the tournament, currently sitting as the No. 4 seed with a conference record of 19-13. They’re tied with San Francisco State, adding an extra layer of competitiveness heading into the final weekend of regular season play. Cal State East Bay leads the conference standings with an impressive 23-9 record, positioning themselves as the team to beat.
Before the Seawolves shift focus to hosting the postseason, they have a four-game series against Chico State. These final games will be key in determining Sonoma’s exact seeding and could even help the Seawolves climb the rankings for a more favorable tournament position.
Last year’s CCAA Tournament in San Marcos provided fireworks, with host Cal State San Marcos winning the whole thing in a dramatic winner-take-all championship game against Cal State East Bay. San Marcos earned a 4-2 victory to advance to the NCAA West Regional Tournament. With the tournament moving north, Sonoma State hopes that home-field advantage will play a pivotal role in their postseason success.
Hosting the tournament is a significant milestone for the Seawolves and their fanbase. The familiar setting of Seawolf Softball Field could provide the edge Sonoma State needs to make a strong push for the title. With a solid core of talent and momentum from their recent play, the team will look to capitalize on this rare opportunity.
Sonoma State has long been a competitive force in the CCAA, and 2025 presents a golden opportunity—not just to compete, but to win it all on their home turf. The community, the players, and the university are gearing up for what promises to be an exciting week of softball in Rohnert Park. Whether they enter as the fourth seed or manage to move up, the Seawolves will be one of the most closely watched teams in the tournament.
