Tunes at Noon brings students together

Taking place the past two weeks at the base of the Seawolf Plaza, ‘Tunes at Noon’ has made a name for itself at Sonoma State.

Held from noon to 1:00 p.m on both April 2nd and April 10th, the event offered a diverse range of musical genres. The April 2 session featured International music, while the April 10  session showcased a blend of throwback tunes, including popular tracks like ‘Good Day’ and ‘We Belong Together.’

Complete with a DJ booth and a set of large speakers hoisted on stage, the event’s main goal was to add life to the Plaza corridors in the form of music. Judging by people’s reaction, the mission was unquestionably accomplished, with Seawolves expressing upliftment.

“Tunes at Noon encourages students to go outside and meet people they haven’t met before,” said second-year transfer student Kenny Baltz, studying Media Communications, “it’s honestly a great way to stay out in the sunshine and I think everybody appreciates the music while walking to their next class.”

Third-year Electrical engineering major Cameron deLeeuw was able to offer his honest opinion on the event’s impact on the atmosphere at Sonoma State, “In general, it’s definitely a positive impact on campus but it only has a positive impact if people go there.”

By creating a positive and inviting environment throughout the center of campus, Tunes at Noon was a step in the right direction towards encouraging seawolves to step out of their comfort zone and connect with other students all while reminiscing music.

“I think it’s pretty diverse which is nice, with a good mix of music going on that’s very open to the public.” said graduate student and Spanish major Shirley Garcia.

For students looking to apply themselves towards positive social settings, more events like this in the future could be in the plans for Sonoma State event schedulers in an attempt to expand an open community.
