Sonoma State will most likely be one out of the twenty-three campuses making the shift to fully online learning for the upcoming semester. The vast majority of classes in the California State University system are expected to be fully online courses. The CSU system is among the first to announce to students that they will not be returning to classes in the fall semester.
This pandemic has had a catastrophic impact on the CSU system and many are beginning to believe that students may not even return for the fall semester. If enrollment rates drop significantly it could severely influence whether College Campuses will ever return to in-person classes. The in-person adventure is an enormous drive to convince some students to actually go to a four-year university.
“This planning approach is necessary because a course that might begin in a face-to-face modality would likely have to be switched to a virtual format during the term if a serious second wave of the pandemic occurs, as forecast. Virtual planning is necessary because it might not be possible for some students, faculty and staff to safely travel to campus”, said Chancellor Timothy P. White.
Overall, only time will tell on what we can expect to see for the future of the CSU system and education entirely. As the coronavirus pandemic continues into summer-time we can expect to receive more updates on how to prepare for the fall semester.
