History has been made yet again for the Sonoma State Softball program as they have now been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association regular season champions. This has been a historic season for the program, being at the top of their league and pitching the program’s first perfect game, earning a multitude of weekly CCAA player awards from start to finish of the regular season, and now being named the best in their conference. The coaches’ and players’ hard work is finally paying off.

As Spring grows near, the Sonoma State University Men’s Golf team finished fifth in last week’s CCAA Championship (California Collegiate Athletic Association). The Women’s team had a bittersweet finish, ending the championship in a tie with Cal State Los Angeles for fourth place. Unfortunately, that brings the women’s season to a close while the men’s team looks ahead to NCAA West Regionals.

The Passing Over of Jewish Representation on Campus

Elias Kaplan, Staff Writer April 17, 2023

While walking through Oliver‘s Market in Cotati wearing a Star of David on a necklace, an older Jewish woman walks up to me and mentions how little representation Jewish people have in the local area. This was in December when statues are dressed up like Santa, and Christmas lights are hung on the trees down Rohnert Park Expressway, but other cultures aren’t represented in any way locally.

Restrict act could jeopardize TikTok and much more

Elias Kaplan, Staff Writer April 4, 2023

Does the government need to be focusing on how to ban TikTok when many of those concerned with it are farther removed from technology than some Sonoma State students’ parents?

Bill S.686 is known as the Restrict Act or the “TikTok Ban Bill.” This bill seems to be centered around TikTok’s parent company ByteDance, the Chinese technology firm that owns the app. However, it is about more than just TikTok, this is about the government wanting unlimited access to people’s devices and appliances whenever they want, based on what actions are deemed “threatening.”

After the altercation at Montgomery High School on Monday, March 1 that left 16-year-old Jayden Pienta dead and another student in the hospital with a stab wound, several walkouts were performed throughout the local district where students and parents called for heightened security measures on campuses.

Duo Mobile continues to annoy and inconvenience students

Elias Kaplan, Staff Writer March 13, 2023

Due to an increase in attempted hackings of Sonoma State University’s websites and accounts, the Duo Mobile service was employed in the Spring semester of 2022 as multi-factor authentication for students and staff. But is there something this service can offer that would make it more convenient to use?

Softball sweeps CCAA Awards

Elias Kaplan, Staff Writer March 7, 2023

Sonoma State Softball continues to rack up their CCAA award count with two of their athletes winning awards after the team’s performance against San Francisco State. These recognitions came after the Seawolves swept SFSU and prevented them from scoring a single run across all four games played between Feb. 17 and 18. Nichole Sarra earned the CCAA (California Collegiate Athletic Association) Softball Pitcher of the Week award for the week of Feb. 13 through Feb. 19. The senior pitcher threw SSU Softball’s first perfect game in the program’s history on Feb 18. In a 45-pitch game, Sarra sent 15 batters in a row back to the dugout from where they came.
