Each year Sonoma County holds annual events that help get the community involved. This year Sonoma County will be hosting the second annual Great Trivia Challenge on Oct. 11 at 6 p.m.

The event, which is being held at the Mary Agatha Furth Center in Windsor, is $25 in advance and $30 at the door per person and includes a delicious lasagna dinner.

The Great Trivia Challenge allows people to get involved in the community and also raise money and awareness for the music and theater programs of the Santa Rosa Symphony League.

The Santa Rosa Symphony puts on free concerts for children as well as in-school performances. Proceeds will also benefit the 6th Street Playhouse. The 6th Street Playhouse opens children’s eyes to music and theater for those who might not have to opportunity.

Questions asked at the Great Trivia Challenge include: Can you name the fifth president of the United States? What are all the capitals of each state? Who won the World Series in 2005? In which Sonoma County town was the movie “American Graffiti” filmed in?

If any students are capable of answering a few questions like these, then they are highly encouraged to enter the competition.  It is $5 per question if one would like to participate in this event.

If answering trivia questions does not sound appealing, then anyone is more than welcome to just be a spectator and can also dress up. Dressing in costumes helps to get into the spirit and cheer on the competitors.

A team of three non-spectators can pay $300 to compete against others. This will also include a Best Team Costume award along with the Weirdest Team Name.

There is a prize for competitors who are able to answer the trivia questions correctly. Winners of each question will have their names put into a draw where one person will win 50 percent of the pot of money.

This event has only been around for a year, but it is all the talk of Sonoma County. This new challenge encourages the community to dress up, answer some questions and just have fun.

For anyone interested in competing or simply joining in on the fun, tickets can be found on triviasonoma.com. Buy tickets now before they run out and don’t miss out on all the excitement.
