Sonoma State University kicked off the 2020 spring semester by hosting LoboFest.
LoboFest is a week and a half long celebration with campus events that are geared towards bringing the entire campus community together through spirit, tradition, and engagement activities. One of the big events hosted this past week was Food Truck Wednesday, which took place last Wednesday afternoon in reserve lot D next to the Student Center. Seawolves were invited to take a break from campus food for the day, and to try out a few local vendors, including Mary’s Pizza Shack, Wing Man, and Taqueria Sol Azteca.
Students were impressed by the turnout and grateful to have such an exciting event right here on campus.
“Having events such as Food Truck Wednesday has helped bring a lot of people out, which makes it easier for many students to get their foot in the door with campus-run activities,” said second year student, Will Montgomery.
The food trucks were popular among students and successful in getting students on campus to participate in different events. Events such as Food Truck Wednesday will hopefully help students become more interested in engaging in future activities hosted by the school.
This LoboFest event also gave some local businesses the chance to promote themselves in a town full of hungry college students who are always looking for somewhere new to eat.
“I love Lobos, Overlook, the Kitchens, etc, but it’s nice to try something new,” said the Director of Student Involvement, Mo Phillips.
Last week’s LoboFest event gave students the opportunity to scope out local eateries, while at the same time bringing the campus community together to support local businesses.
“Events like this get more students on campus and is a great way to meet people and most importantly, eat,” said fourth year student, Brooke Bringham.
Although there were only a few vendors on Wednesday, restaurants such as Wing Man had students lined up across the parking lot. Located in downtown Cotati, Wing Man has gone above and beyond to create a menu suitable for any type of food lover. For example, Wing Man not only serves bone-in and boneless wings, but they are well known for serving their vegan wing option, as well.
“Their cauliflower vegan wings taste just as good as their original boneless,” said fourth year student, Aliya Conway.
“I hope people had a good time, ate yummy food, and look forward to what student involvement has in store for the future” said the Student Involvement Coordinator at Sonoma State, Marina Briones.
Most Sonoma State upperclassmen tend to live off campus, but LoboFest activities, such as Food Truck Wednesday, bring students back on to campus to do something outside of being in class. The university has hosted various other events this past week to celebrate LoboFest, with activities such as Grocery Cart Bingo this past Thursday, where students played to win household necessities such as toilet paper, Tide pods and many other prizes. Sonoma State was also home to many other fun events such as the Glitched Smash Brother Tournaments, and Pack the Den women’s basketball game against San Francisco State University this past Saturday.
Sonoma State will be hosting similar events in the near future, so make sure to check out the university website to learn more about what is in store for the rest of LoboFest.
