One Seawolf, who always wants to lend a hand or make a difference regardless of the task, is senior Isabelle Briseno, a girl who always puts a step forward in all things campus life. Briseno is highly involved on campus, including taking on roles in academic programming and sorority life, to only name a few. A brilliant, outgoing, and absolutely wonderful young women are just a few words to describe Briseno. Briseno embodies what it means to be a true Seawolf.
“Isabelle has been an important student leader for the campus, and if you ask anyone who knows her they will tell you she is the warmest, happiest, and most helpful person they know,” said Associated Students Executive Director Erick Dickson
Briseno, a senior here at Sonoma State University has lived through her (almost) four years at the school, to make the biggest impact she could. Aside from the many programs Briseno is involved in, including sorority life and Associated Students, she also brings positivity and light to our campus. One may find Isabelle attending meetings, participating in school-related activities like Phi Delta Theta’s annual wing eating competition, and spending her summer at Sonoma State’s campus as a summer Orientation Leader.
“My number one focus is school, but I wanted to do more, so I decided to become involved with the university as much as I could,” said Briseno.
Briseno has made many impacts here at Sonoma State, beginning as early as her freshman year. During her freshman year, Briseno ran for and won the position of Associated Students Senator for Community Affairs. Her position entailed representing Sonoma State’s students in the surrounding community. Briseno carried the position as Senator into her sophomore and junior year, and served on the Board of Directors for Associated Students. Briseno also gained a position at the Campus Recreation Center for the low-ropes course, letting her friendliness shine by guiding Seawolves through this activity course on campus.
“If I needed one student who I know I could count on to bring a great attitude to any situation – I would turn to Isabelle,” says Dickson.
Briseno wanted to broaden her community and feel a sense of home at Sonoma State, so she joined Alpha Xi Delta, a sorority here at Sonoma State’s campus. During her freshman year, she became Academic Achievement Chair of the sorority, and helped to maintain academic excellence of Alpha Xi Delta. She does this by keeping everyone on track with their education needs and making sure they have an appropriate schedule.
“Isabelle is impressive, and involved in many aspects of campus life, as well as juggling a job and full-time classes,” says Associated Students Administrator and Alpha Xi Delta Advisor, Elizabeth O’Brien.
Briseno enjoyed being involved with her sorority so much that she decided to run for president of Alpha Xi Delta during her sophomore year. As president, she would oversee the sorority as a whole, and be a representation of the chapter on the university and national level. Briseno embraced this role with her full commitment, and being so good at keeping a busy schedule, she was able to extend her position as president for a second term.
“I felt so connected after joining Alpha Xi Delta, and I really enjoyed my prior position to wantex to make a bigger mark as president,” said Briseno.
As Briseno takes on her senior year, she is not only excited about her journey but also sad this wonderful time is ending. Briseno will be graduating with her Hutchins Bachelor’s degree, as well as finishing her teaching credential the following semester. She is currently working as a preschool teacher at Learning to Love, and once started Isabelle knew this was what she wanted to do with her life.
“I try to work as much as I can with the pre-school, since it is what I see myself doing in the long-run,” said Briseno.
As Brieseno’s final days on campus come closer and closer, many students will remember her for her commitment and positivity. Though Briseno has accomplished many things, and we leave a legacy here at Sonoma State as she graduates.
“Going to Sonoma state has been a dream of mine since 8th grade, so I feel really lucky to be going here, it has been so rewarding and I am so grateful for the friends and memories I have made,” said Briseno.
