On Saturday, April 13, at 7 a.m.,Sonoma State student Alex Poltoratskiy, 19, crashed into the 7-Eleven across from Sonoma State, shattering a storefront window.
Nobody was injured in the accident.
Poltoratskiy was arrested for driving under the influence after he displayed “objective symptoms of alcohol intoxication” and taken to Sonoma County Jail, according to a press release by Rohnert Park Public Safety.
He was released after posting $10,000 bail.
When emergency personnel arrived at the scene, they found Poltoratskiy standing outside of his crashed 2012 Nissan Altima.
“He was calm, and complied, despite the circumstances,” Sgt. Nick Labonte told the Press Democrat.
According to the store’s surveillance footage, there were customers inside of the building minutes before the crash.
Poltoratskiy was not driving unusually fast, and he appeared to be pulling into the parking lot but did not stop in time before crashing, police told the Press Democrat.
A building inspector for the city of Rohnert Park determined that the building will remain closed until the storefront made of glass is replaced and the store is clean and safe enough for customers. The store has since reopened with wood covering where the glass was broken.
